Tigers win 2nd Test innings and 106 runs

An all-round performance by Mehidy Hasan Miraz guided Bangladesh to achieve a massive an innings and 106 runs win in the second Test against Zimbabwe on the third day of the last Test at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday. Miraz notched up a terrific 104. His 162-ball knock was studded with 11 fours and a sixer.
He finished his outstanding bowling spell as 21-8-32-5. He was adjudged the Man of the Match and also was adjudged the Player of the Series for his consistent bowling display in the two Test match (Tuesday).
Deciding to bat first, Zimbabwe made 227 in the first innings on the second day.
In reply, the Tigers piled up a mammoth total of 444 in the first innings on the third day and shot out Zimbabwe for just 111 in the second innings.
Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 291 for the loss of seven wickets. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 16 and five runs respectively.
Miraz and Taijul contributed together 51 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Taijul Islam (20) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Tsiga off Vincent Masakesa when Bangladesh’s score was 342 for the loss of eight wickets.
After Taijul’s dismissal, Miraz and Tanzim Hasan built a worthy partnership scoring together 96 runs for the ninth wicket partnership before Tanzim Hasan was caught at the short leg by Nick Welch off Wessly Madhevere when the Tigers’ total was 438 for the loss of nine wickets.
Tanzim Hasan hit a polished 41. His 80-ball innings had two fours and one sixer.
After Tanzim’s departure, Miraz was stumped out by wicketkeeper Tsiga off Masakesa when Bangladesh’s first innings came to an end.
Masakesa was the his team’s most successful bowler. He got more two wickets on the third day. He captured five wickets instead of 115 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers totally dominated over the Zimbabwe’s batter with their tight, controlled and superb bowling attack. Taijul Islam captured three wickets in lieu of 42 runs, while Nayeem Hasan took one wicket.
Zimbabwe had a poor start as opener Brian Bennett was caught at the second slip by Shadman Islam off Taijul Islam when the African side’s score was just 8.
Taijul struck again as Nick Welch was trapped leg before wicket by the leg spinner when the touring side’s total was eight for the loss of two wickets.
Sean Williams (7) was caught at the second slip by Shadman Islam off Nayeem Hasan when Zimbabwe’s score was 22 for the loss of three wickets.
Right-arm off spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck as Craig Ervine (25) was bowled out by the off spinner when the tourists’ total was 69 for the loss of four wickets. Miraz struck again as Madhevere (0) was trapped leg before wicket by the off spinner when Zimbabwe’s score was 73 for the loss of five wickets. Miraz kept his dominance as Tsiga (0) was caught at the short leg by Anamul Haque Bijoy off the right-arm spinner when the visitors’ total was 73 for the loss of six wickets.Miraz maintained his supremacy as Wellington Masakadza was caught at the mid-off by Taijul Islam off the right-arm spinner when the tourists’ score was 93 for the loss of seven wickets.
Opener Ben Curran fought back scoring 46 from 103 deliveries with five fours but Curran was caught behind by Jaker Ali off Miraz and Zimbabwe’s resistance was totally broken and Miraz completed his five-wicket haul when the visitors’ total was 98 for the loss of eight wickets. Taijul Islam hit as Richard Ngarava (5) was caught at the deep midwicket by Hasan Mahmud off the leg spinner when Zimbabwe’s score was 100 for the loss of nine wickets. Masekesa (2) was run out by Mominul Haque and Zimbabwe’s innings was concluded.
