Judgment on Hasan Ali’s war crimes trial any day

Closing the law-point arguments from both sides in the trial of the 1971 war crimes accused Syed M Hachen alias Hasan Ali of Kishoreganj, being tried in absentia, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Monday kept the verdict pending for any day.
Declaring the law-point arguments closed, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, the chairman of the three-member tribunal, pronounced the order.
“The law-point arguments have completed. Now it’s time to write the verdict. The verdict has
been kept pending as per rules,” said Justice M Enayetur Rahim.
Public Prosecutor Mohammad Ali and state-appointed defence counsel Abdus Shukur Khan made their closing statements before the tribunal.
It will be the 18th judgment of the tribunal as it earlier had delivered 17 verdicts.
Talking to reporters, Prosecutor Mohamamd Ali said all the allegations brought against Hasan have been proved and sought the highest punishment-death penalty-for the accused.
Meanwhile, defence counsel Abdus Sukur Khan said, “The prosecution has failed to prove the allegations against him. Hasan will be acquitted from the charges”.
