Govt to buy 2 cargos LNG, 3.3cr liters edible oil, 50,000 MTs rice

The government has given the green light to separate proposals for procuring two LNG cargos, 3.30 crore liters of edible oil, 50,000 metric tons of rice, and 70,000 metric tons of fertilizer to address the country’s increasing demand.

These approvals were made during the 15th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held this year, which took place on Thursday at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, according to a report by BSS.

Based on two individual proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla will purchase one LNG cargo from the spot market via international quotation from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, UK at an approximate cost of Tk 5.68 billion. Another LNG cargo will be acquired similarly from M/S Gunvor Singapore Pte Limited, Singapore for about Tk 5.69 billion.

Under two separate proposals submitted by the Ministry of Commerce, the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will procure 1.10 crore liters of refined rice bran oil through the local Open Tendering Method (OTM) from Tamim Agro Industries Limited, Dhaka, and Majumder Bran Oil Mills Limited, Jessore, at a total cost of around Tk 1.77 billion, with the price per liter set at Tk 161.
