Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has partnered with Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital (BETH) to facilitate critical eye care services, including free cataract surgeries, for underprivileged communities across the country.
Under its CSR initiative, EBL has contributed Tk 40 lakh to support this cause.
Ahmed Shaheen, additional managing director of EBL, handed over the cheque to Dr Niaz Abdur Rahman, managing director of Bangladesh Eye Hospital and Institute, at a ceremony held at the bank’s head office in the capital.
Ahmed Shaheen said, “At EBL, we believe that improving lives through impactful and sustainable community programmes is part of our core mission.
This partnership with Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital allows us to bring hope and light to thousands who suffer from preventable blindness.
Together, we aim to build a healthier and more equitable Bangladesh.”
Dr Niaz Abdur Rahman added, “Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital is the non-profit sister concern of Bangladesh Eye Hospital and Institute Ltd.
Our main objective is to provide free or subsidised eye care to the underprivileged.
Over the past 11 years, we have performed 18,000 cataract surgeries free of cost, thanks to partnerships with various organisations and individuals.
