Fakhrul asks govt to be tough on women rights violators

Expressing deep concern over the rising incidents of harassment and abuse against women, the BNP on Friday called on the government to take strict measures against the offenders and ensure justice.

In a statement, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir strongly denounced and opposed all forms of violence against women, including different types of harassment.

“I urge the government to restore justice and peace in the country by taking decisive steps to curb all anarchic situations, including violence against women,” he said.

The BNP leader emphasized that women are contributing significantly alongside men in every sector of the nation’s progress and development.

“The advancement of women in education is particularly praiseworthy. Just as they are excelling in the country, they are also enhancing the nation’s image abroad with their contributions,” he noted.

Fakhrul expressed sorrow over the fact that women from various walks of life, including students and female workers, are falling victim to eve-teasing, molestation, and harassment in different places, including educational institutions.

“Women are facing rape, torture, and even murder. Such incidents have sharply escalated since the authoritarian Awami League government assumed power,” he alleged.

The BNP leader accused the Awami League government of failing to take effective measures against violence towards women.

He claimed that due to the absence of justice and the prevailing culture of impunity, offenders have become increasingly fearless and reckless.

“We are seriously alarmed by the rising trend of harassment against women in various settings, including streets and educational institutions. This growing trend is deeply concerning,” Fakhrul remarked.

He asserted that such acts are fueling chaos and instability across the nation.

“It is our moral duty to uphold the dignity of women and ensure their freedom, which is a right enshrined in the constitution,” the BNP leader affirmed.

He pointed out that the people of the country are now gravely worried about the overall lawlessness, including violence against women.

“We strongly denounce and oppose these incidents and urge everyone to act responsibly and with caution,” the BNP leader concluded.
