Weather dept issues temperature forecast
Staff Reporter:
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about a drop in nighttime temperatures over the next three days due to a normal low-pressure area positioned in the southern Bay of Bengal.
According to the forecast for the next 72 hours, starting from 9 AM today, temperatures will slightly decrease at night. The department has also indicated that the weather will remain dry, with partly cloudy skies across the country from Tuesday to Thursday. During this period, daytime temperatures are expected to remain mostly unchanged.
Furthermore, similar weather conditions are expected tomorrow (Wednesday) and the following day (Thursday).
Looking ahead to the next five days, the weather department has predicted a gradual increase in temperature. In its long-term forecast for March, the Meteorological Department has stated that the country is likely to experience less rainfall than usual this month. There is no forecast of a cyclone or depression forming in the Bay of Bengal.
The department also noted that both daytime and nighttime temperatures will gradually rise throughout the month. However, towards the end of March, there could be one or two mild to moderate heatwaves affecting the western and southwestern regions of the country.
