Reports of mass robbery in Pabna exaggerated
Staff Reporter :
The scale of a robbery in Pabna’s Santhia early Saturday has been exaggerated by certain media outlets, Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumder said today, March 1.
Addressing a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Majumder pointed out inconsistencies in various reports about the incident. “Some media outlets reported that 40 vehicles were robbed, while others claimed ten. Interestingly, those reporting ten vehicles included eyewitness accounts mentioning only five vehicles,” he said.
The robbery took place near the Chechania Bridge on the Pabna-Santhia road around 1:30 am when a large group of criminals blocked the road using trees and looted valuables from passing vehicles, including buses and trucks. The attack left passengers shaken as they were ambushed in the dead of night.
Contrary to some media reports, the Deputy Press Secretary clarified that, according to official information, the incident involved a microbus, two trucks, and a motorcycle. “The police were informed and arrived at the scene within ten minutes,” he stated, emphasizing the swift response of law enforcement.
Majumder reassured the public that authorities remain vigilant in tackling crime. “We are continuously working on improving the law and order situation,” he added.
Meanwhile, concerns over highway security have intensified following this incident, with calls for increased patrols and surveillance to prevent such occurrences in the future.
