‘AL embezzled Tk 7,000cr of teachers’ gains’

Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has alleged that the previous Awami League government embezzled Tk 7,000 crore from teachers’ retirement benefits.

He made the allegation while addressing a session titled “Rebuilding a Fragile Economy and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals” as the chief guest at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.

Milon also alleged that the previous government had spent thousands of crores of taka in the name of observing August 15.

Mentioning Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s efforts for the country and its people, the minister said the prime minister has been working round the clock while giving equal importance to the development of various sectors, including education, health and housing.

Addressing the country’s political parties, Milon called for cooperation, saying, “Instead of only criticising, let us all work together.”

He also highlighted various development activities of the government, saying family cards are being distributed among people across the country.

“Following instructions of the Prime Minister, I am working day and night to improve the country’s education system,” Milon said.

State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, along with officials from various ministries and educational institutions, also spoke at the event.
