Worker unrest in N’ganj Orion Infusion Factory
Staff Correspondent :
Workers at a saline production factory, Orion Infusion Limited, in Rupganj, Narayanganj, staged a protest demanding overdue overtime payments.
On Saturday, workers at the factory, located in the Moikuli area along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, expressed their frustration. They gathered at the factory’s main gate, demanding their pending wages and the removal of Senior Vice President Binoy Krishna Baroi.
According to the workers, the factory employs around 350 workers, including 280 male workers, 20 female workers, and 50 staff members. They claim that nine months’ worth of overtime payments, as well as bonuses from 2020 and 2024, remain unpaid. Despite repeated requests for payment, the management has allegedly been delaying the issue.
Workers also accused Senior Vice President Binoy Krishna Baroi of subjecting them to mental and physical harassment. Those who protested against these actions were reportedly removed from their jobs.
On Saturday morning, when workers once again demanded their overdue payments, the management allegedly threatened them instead of addressing their concerns.
This led to a heated situation, with workers gathering in front of the factory to stage a protest.
Upon receiving reports of the protest, police and military personnel arrived at the scene to monitor the situation.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liakat Ali stated that discussions are ongoing with both the workers and the management to resolve the issue. He also confirmed that the situation is currently under control.
