Miscreants free drug trafficker from police

Staff Reporter :
In a shocking display of lawlessness, a group of miscreants attacked police officers in the Kawran Bazar railway line area of the capital, injuring three officers and forcibly freeing a detained drug trafficker from custody.
The incident took place around 5:00 PM on Tuesday (February 25, 2025).
The injured officers, identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Ikhtiar Hossain, Constable Biplob, and Constable Delwar Hossain, have been admitted to Rajarbagh Police Hospital for treatment.
Video footage of the incident, now circulating on social media, shows police officers attempting to hold onto a handcuffed suspect when several armed men launch a sudden assault.
In the chaos, the assailants overpower the police, forcibly remove the suspect’s handcuffs, and flee the scene.
SI Ikhtiar Hossain recounted the attack, stating, “That afternoon, my team and I were patrolling the Kawran Bazar area on foot.
Near the Kamarpatti railway line, we noticed several drug traffickers attempting to flee. We managed to apprehend a suspect named Shaheen (25), who was carrying a bag containing small packets of cannabis.”
However, moments after Shaheen’s arrest, his associates retaliated, pelting stones at the officers. Seeking cover, the police took shelter near an elevated expressway pillar, but the attackers closed in.
“One of them, identified as Din Islam Kalu, struck my neck with the blunt side of a cleaver,” SI Ikhtiar added. “Shockingly, Shaheen himself joined the attack, and his accomplices managed to unlock his handcuffs and escape with him.”
Following the attack, Tejgaon Police Station filed a case against seven named suspects and 10-15 unidentified individuals.
Investigation officer SI Joydeb Kumar Basu confirmed that one of the accused has already been arrested and presented in court on Wednesday night.
“Operations are ongoing to capture the remaining culprits. We will ensure justice,” he stated.
Police have launched a special crackdown to track down the attackers, vowing to bring all those involved to justice.
