Envoy Ansari pledges skilled manpower scope in Mexico
Diplomatic Correspondent :
The newly appointed Bangladeshi Ambassador to Mexico, Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, has emphasised the need for Bangladesh to transition from its past reputation as a country associated with enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings to being recognised as a progressive and civilised nation.
He described this as a pivotal opportunity that must not be missed and called on expatriate Bangladeshis to play a significant role in this transformation.
Speaking at the “Meet the Ambassador” event organised by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Mexico City on Sunday, Ambassador Ansari urged expatriates to contribute to the country’s economy by sending remittances and abiding by the laws of their
host country.
The event, held in the presence of the Bangladeshi expatriate community, was conducted by the Head of Chancery, Abdullah Al Farhad.
During his speech, the Ambassador highlighted the crucial role of remittances in strengthening Bangladesh’s economy and assured attendees that, under his leadership, the embassy would be transformed into a people-friendly and accessible mission.
He emphasised the importance of fostering strong people-to-people connections and encouraged expatriates to adapt to the environment of Mexico while respecting its laws and regulations.
Ambassador Ansari also reiterated the Bangladeshi government’s zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking and stressed the importance of safe and legal migration.
He pledged to strengthen the embassy’s efforts to facilitate skilled migration, particularly in sectors such as IT, agriculture, engineering, and other professional fields, aiming to integrate Bangladeshi talent into Mexico’s labour market.
The Ambassador announced an ambitious goal of increasing Bangladesh’s exports to Mexico to $1 billion USD. He outlined plans to diversify exports beyond ready-made garments and pharmaceuticals, focusing on sectors such as leather products, IT services, and agricultural goods, which currently hold untapped potential.
In a solemn moment, Ambassador Ansari paid tribute to the martyrs of the July mass uprising, assuring that their sacrifices would always be remembered. He reiterated his commitment to building a just and inclusive Bangladesh, calling for unity among all Bangladeshis.
Addressing the nation’s past, he remarked, “During the rule of the previous authoritarian government, Bangladesh gained a notorious reputation for enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. It is now time to move forward, leaving behind those dark chapters and presenting Bangladesh as a disciplined, civilised, and progressive nation.”
He expressed pride in Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus leading the interim government, stating, “With his leadership, we are confident of holding a free and credible election, ensuring public aspirations are upheld and the people’s rightful ownership of the nation is restored.”
Several members of the Bangladeshi community also spoke at the event, congratulating the Ambassador on his new role and pledging their support to enhance the welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis.
The event concluded with a reception featuring traditional Bangladeshi cuisine, providing guests with a taste of home.
