Toby Cadman on Hasina's extradition: It’s up to India to stand for justice

International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Special Prosecutor Advisor, Barrister Toby Cadman, expressed hope on Monday that India would support the truth and respond positively to Bangladesh’s note verbale requesting the repatriation of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for the sake of justice.

“The Foreign Ministry has appropriately called for her extradition from India. It is now India’s turn to decide whether they will stand for justice or protect her from accountability.

I hope they will choose to support justice moving forward,” Cadman said during a press briefing at the ICT.

Cadman, a renowned international law specialist and co-founder of the London-based “The Guernica 37 Group,” acknowledged that the Bangladesh government cannot compel India to take a positive stance in response to the diplomatic request.

He added, “However, we can hope that Sheikh Hasina will be brought back to Bangladesh and made to stand trial.”

The ICT prosecutor advisor emphasised that the ousted prime minister would be given every opportunity to defend herself in accordance with the law.

“I am here to work as a professional, and that is what I will do. No past incidents or activities will influence my work here. It is important to remember that there is no room for haste in completing these trial procedures correctly,” he added, in response to a question.
