Primary teachers rally at Shaheed Minar for 10th-grade pay scale

Teachers from government primary schools gathered at the city’s Central Shaheed Minar on Friday demanding an upgrade to the 10th-grade salary scale.
Under the banner of “General Primary School Teachers,” they held a rally at 11:30am with teachers from various districts assembling at the venue from 9am.
Currently, the basic salary for the 13th grade is Tk 11,000, which would increase to Tk 16,000 if the 10th-grade salary structure is implemented.
The teachers warned that their movement would intensify if their demands were not met.
On September 29, 2024, over 300 assistant teachers held a human chain protest in front of the Directorate of Primary Education in Mirpur, advocating for the same demand under the banner of the “Primary Teacher Coordination Council.” A seven-member delegation submitted a memorandum to Directorate of Primary Education Director General Dr Md Abdul Hakim, who assured them of swift action to resolve grade disparities.
