AL-BNP violent clash leaves over 25 hurt in Kishoreganj

Staff Reporter :

At least 25 people were injured in a violent clash between Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) supporters in Ashtagram haor upazila of Kishoreganj on Wednesday evening. The confrontation stemmed from a longstanding supremacy and land dispute.
The clash erupted in the Shekherhati area of Purba Ashtagram Union after BNP’s Jubo Dal general secretary Rahman Ali attempted to reclaim two acres of land allegedly occupied by AL leader Kawsarul Alam Kasid since 2009. Kasid, a member of the AL’s Upazila Committee and a former chairman of Purba Ashtagram Union Parishad, reportedly resisted Rahman Ali’s efforts, leading to the skirmish.
Both groups engaged in a massive altercation, leaving dozens injured. Among those wounded were Taijul (26), Emdajul (40), Ali Rahman (47), Monty Khan (32), Ali Azhar Khan (63), and Vishal (17). Victims were initially treated at Ashtagram Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital for advanced medical care.
Sub-Inspector Mosharraf Hossain of Ashtagram Police Station confirmed that officers intervened to control the situation and arrested three individuals—Jalal Mia, Chattu Mia, and Vishal. No formal cases have been filed yet.
The land dispute between the two groups has reportedly caused several violent incidents in the past. Authorities are investigating the matter to prevent further unrest.
