Construction workers demand better life

The construction workers’ union INSUB (Imarat Nirman Sramik Union Bangladesh) has called upon authorities concerned to ensure safe and healthy workplaces, introduce a rationing system and fair compensation for the families of workers killed in workplace-related accidents during a rally on Saturday morning in front of the Jatiya Press Club.
During the rally, the union leaders raised 12-point demands that include affordable housing, welfare program expansion, workplace safety, implementation of workers’ legal rights, enforcement of occupational safety and health measures, representation in health councils, protection from violence, government-led training for overseas employment, establishment of labor shelters, equal wages for female workers, implementation of a worker registration system and enforcement of the government-declared minimum wage.
Prominent labor leaders Md. Anwar Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Workers’ Party, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Trade Union Center Abul Kalam Azad and General Secretary of the Sommilito Samajik Andolon Saleh Ahmed were present at the event besides INSUB’s central leaders.
