Owners’ 72-hr ultimatum

The owners and the drivers of battery- run rickshaws in the Chitagong city announced ultimatum for next 72 hours demanding permission for plying these rickshaws .
They said if the concerned authority not lift the embargo on battery- run rickshaw within 72hrs , they will launch tougher movement .
The demand of the battery run rickshaw owners and drivers was announced at the huge human chain formed infront of Chittagong Press club as arranged under the banner of Chattagram Battery -Run Rickshaw Chalak-Malik Sramik League yesterday morning.
General Secretary of the Sramik League, City Unit Nurul Islam attended it as Chief Guest.
The chief guest in his brief deliverations said they submit written prayer to the district administration and CMP authority depicting their logical demands infavour of the battery run rickshaws but the authorities did not show any sympathy to the poor rickshaw drivers . So we became compelled to announce 72 hours ultimatum and hoped authority will consider the matter with humanity .
The human chain was also told that if the authority fails to consider their prayer, these less fortunate people of the society will have no other alternatives of enforcing the transport strike in greater Chittagong.
The speaker s in the human sea said following the sudden prohibition on battery run rickshaws , more than one lakh people including owners, drivers and rickshaw mechanics became idle and passing their livelihood miserably, sources added.
