The Gazipur Metropolitan Police has lifted the Section 144 imposed on the World Ijtema grounds in Gazipur’s Tongi.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr Nazmul Karim Khan confirmed the matter on Thursday evening.

He said, “The police will continue their deployment as before, ensuring security.”

On December 18, two factions of Tabligh Jamaat clashed at the Bishwa Ijtema grounds in Tongi, Gazipur over control of the area. The clash resulted in the deaths of at least four people and injuries to scores. That afternoon, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim imposed Section 144, which prohibited public gatherings and rallies within a 3 km radius of the Ijtema ground.

The order also included Kamarpara, Abdullahpur, Uttara Sector 10, and parts of the southern and western banks of the Turag River. The public notice also prohibited the use of loudspeakers or any similar devices that produce loud noise.
