VAT Day and VAT Week 2024 were observed in the divisional city of Rangpur with colourful arrangements on Tuesday at a seminar was organised in the conference room of the Customs, Excise and VAT Department Rangpur office. The chief guest was Md. Abdus Sabur Khan, Tax Commissioner of Tax Region Rangpur. The special guests were Akbar Ali, President of Rangpur District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and GolamZakariaPintu, Acting President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber. Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Rangpur Commissioner Dr. Abu NurRashed Ahmed presided over the program, and Additional Tax Commissioner Md. ZiaurRahman Khan delivered the welcome speech, and Joint Commissioner Shahed Ahmed presented the keynote address. On the occasion of VAT Day and VAT Week, the panellists stressed on making the VAT system fully online and on structural reforms to get the full benefits. They said that the National Board of Revenue is working towards this goal.
Commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT CommissionerateRangpur Dr. Abu NurRashed Ahmed said that one of the driving forces of development is revenue. The lion’s share of internal revenue is currently derived from VAT. There is no alternative to modernizing the VAT system to involve all stakeholders in revenue collection and to make the nation economically prosperous.
He said that now is the time to dream in a new way.
In order to create good governance, integrity, a just society and a working environment, the current revenue administration hopes to introduce a 100% online VAT system, through which respected taxpayers can easily receive all the necessary services in a paperless and complaint-free business-friendly environment.
The event was attended by officials and employees from all levels of the Commissionerate’s departments and circles, business representatives, owners of various institutions, and journalists from print and electronic media.
