At least 60 people were injured, and 11 houses, business establishments vandalised and looted in a clash over a football game in Bhairab port town of Kishoreganj on Saturday afternoon.
The clash took place on Saturday afternoon between the Panchabati Katherpul area of Bhairab port town.
Later, Members of Army including police arrived and brought the situation under control.
The injured persons admitted to Bhairab Government Hospital, Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital and private clinics. Some of the seriously injured have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) .
Locals and police saids, two weeks ago, a fight broke out between the youths of Gainhati area and Panchabati area during a dispute over a football game. Later, local leaders settled the matter. In the second phase, three days ago, there was a ruckus between them over the same issue.
On Friday, December 6, people from Gainhati beat up Shanto and Emdadul in the city’s Chowk Bazar. That night, tension prevailed in the two areas. Although the leaders of both sides gave time to resolve the issue at 12 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, Gainhati later made it clear that there would be no resolution. The people from both sides got involved in a clash with ramda, ballam, teta and firearms. Over sixty people from both sides were reported to have been injured in the clash.
Additional SP(Crime& Ops) of Kishoreganj, Al-Amin Hossein told the New Nation that, Situation has been brought under control with the army and police forces. Necessary action will be taken based on the complaints from both sides, Additional SP Al-Amin added.
