Bangladesh’s instability will harm India more: Adviser Sakhawat

Staff Correspondent :

Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Labor and Employment, has said that if India attempts to create communal instability in Bangladesh, it will not bode well for them either. He emphasized that Bangladesh’s 180 million people will not remain silent. “I wouldn’t say India as a whole, but certain Indian media outlets and political parties are doing this to gain votes. If Bangladesh becomes unstable, I don’t think they will remain unaffected,” he stated. He added, “We believe the relationship between Bangladesh and India should progress based on equality. If the friendly ties between the two countries are damaged, it will harm India more than Bangladesh.”
He made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon while responding to reporters’ questions after inspecting the BRDWP-1 project’s multipurpose jetty at Narayanganj under the BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority).
He further mentioned that the Ministry of Shipping is ready to provide all forms of assistance to the Ministry of Environment to prevent pollution in rivers, including the Shitalakshya River. Effective measures will soon be taken through the River Protection Commission to curb river encroachment. He acknowledged that challenges arise, especially when action is taken against major encroachers.
The adviser also highlighted a significant conspiracy aimed at shutting down the country’s garment industry, which is a major pillar of Bangladesh’s economy.
“The government is aware of the kind of plots taking place. Blaming the workers is not the solution,” he said. Regarding garment factories that are in debt or where owners are untraceable, he mentioned that directives on these issues would be given next week.
