More than 1000 students, NGO activists and locals formed a human chain at Gujadia area in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj on Monday noon protesting against a move to grab the lone playground, eidgah of the area
Protesters alleged that an influential person of the area is occupying the nearly two hundred years old land and doing fish farming. However, the accused claims that this property is his own. It has been abandoned for a long time. Now do the fish farm. There is tension between the two sides.
The incident happened in Atkapara village of Gujadia union of Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj. About one and a half acres of land of Atkapara village has been used as an Eidgah and playground by the local people for a long time. They also do the work of drying paddy here during the paddy harvesting season. Until now everything was going on normally. It was only when a person from the area claimed this property and took the initiative to build a fish farm here.
A person named Abdul Ahad said that this land has been used as an Eidgah and a playground for more than a hundred years. The field is also used for paddy drying. But a few days ago suddenly Anis Fakir and his sons of the area claimed the field as their own and took the initiative to start a fish farm. The villagers started protesting against it. Hundreds of men and women of the area took to the streets on Monday to demand the protection of the field.
They declared to defend the field at any cost. On the other hand, the claimant of the land, Anis Fakir’s son Nuruzzaman Fakir, is desperate to keep the land in his possession. He said that their family is the legal owner of the land. They have left the land abandoned for a long time. Now cultivate it. But some people in the village are threatening them and even demanding extortion, he alleged. In this regard, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of karimganj, Tahmina Akhtar told the New Nation that, legal action will be taken after inspecting the ground and listening to the statements of both parties.
