SGUAMC teachers’ salary stopped for 6 months

Sylhet Bureau :

There are beautiful buildings, infrastructure. There are 86 students. But there is no paid teacher to conduct their classes. Such a situation has arisen in Sylhet Government Unani Ayurvedic Medical College (SGUAMC), the oldest Unani educational institution of Sylhet, as the appointment of teachers has been cancelled by the government order.
26 teachers of the college have not been paid for six months. After two government orders canceled their jobs, they have been prevented from joining work despite court orders. As a result, 86 students of the college are being deprived of classes, as well as the family members of the unpaid teachers are living an inhumane life. Many doubts have arisen about the future of the country’s oldest school.
It is known that Sylhet Government Tibbia College was established in 1945. In 2011, it moved to its current home in the suburbs. Since then, a large number of students started enrolling in this college. According to the academic wing of the college, there are 86 students in the college in the current session. 351 teachers are appointed across the country under the Alternative Medicine Care Project under the Ministry of Health. From this appointment, 12 teachers were appointed in Sylhet Government Tibbia College. Then 14 teachers were appointed directly for the college under the Ministry of Health in 2012. Since then, the educational program of this college has gained new momentum. But in 2016, they were released from the Ministry of Health. Their appointment orders were cancelled. The Ministry of Health has not given any reason for their dismissal or exemption so far. The teachers filed a writ petition in the High Court against this order. Pursuant to the writ, the order came in favor of the teachers. The High Court ordered their reinstatement. But the college authorities did not take into account the order coming on behalf of the teachers as they did not receive the order of the Department of Health Education. As a result, they are able to join their workplace even with the court order. In the meantime, another supplementary order has come from the High Court in this regard. The order that came on August 19 also ordered the transfer of 14 teachers to the revenue sector through assimilation of jobs. But teachers are in trouble as no instructions have come from the Ministry of Health so far. They are unable to join work, unable to engage in any other profession in this middle age.
Ordered teacher Mohammad Zafar Hossain Khan said, we are facing an extremely inhumane situation. Especially some teachers out of 14 who are deprived of salary and allowances are living an inhumane life as they have no means of earning. On the other hand, 12 teachers covered under the Alternative Medicine Care project are also not able to attend work as their project has been cancelled. As a result, now practically the entire educational program of the college has come to a standstill. None of these 12 teachers of the college are getting salary since last June.
In this regard, the principal of the college (ongoing duty) Dr. Md. Moinul Islam Chowdhury Nanna said that an order has come from the court in favor of 14 teachers. But I cannot allow them to join the work without the order of the Ministry of Health. And the 12 teachers who were in the alternative project are now taking classes. But they are not getting salary.
