‘ISKCON issue may involve domestic, foreign influence’

Home Affairs Advisor Lt General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday said the ISKCON issue may involve both domestic and foreign influence. He also noted that certain groups within the country, including some banned organisations, could be involved.

He made this remarks on Tuesday evening while responding to questions from journalists after a discussion with officials from various administrative departments at the Sylhet Circuit House.

The home affairs advisor said, “Many false cases have been filed across the country. Measures are being taken to ensure that innocent individuals are not harassed in such cases. A committee comprising DCs, SPs, and Legal Aid Officers will be formed to address the issue.”

He urged people to expose those filing false cases, emphasising that they, too, will be brought under the purview of the law.

Regarding the recent student protests, he said a discussion was held on Tuesday with representatives from various colleges.

“I believe it was a productive discussion, and I think the issue will be resolved. Students are our brothers, sons, daughters, and sisters. We cannot be harsh with them, they are intelligent and need to be reasoned with. I believe they have understood the matter and will resolve it among themselves,” he added.

The advisor said the weapons looted from various police stations have not yet been fully recovered. Operations are ongoing to retrieve these weapons.

He said the government is working to enhance the activities of community policing. He mentioned that the initiative will first be intensified in Dhaka and subsequently expanded across the entire country in phases.
