Sufferings gear up amid essentials price hike

The prices of rice, onion, potatoes and edible oil increased further in the kitchen markets in Kishoreganj over 10 days.
Meanwhile, the prices of most other commodities, including rice, onions, sugar and red lentil, remained high on the kitchen markets.
Traders said that the prices of unpackaged soya bean oil and palm oil have been increasing almost every day on the wholesale market for past one week.They said that the price of unpackaged soya bean oil topped the price of packaged item over the week.
Retailers also said that the price of potatoes continued to rise on the market due to an off-seasonal supply shortage.
The price of potatoes increased by Tk 5 to 7 a kilogram and the item sold for Tk 75-80 a kilogram on kishoreganj ‘s kitchen markets on Wednesday.
The prices of edible oil increased by Tk 7-8 a litre over the week and unpackaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 175-178 per litre while the packaged item sold for Tk 167 to 170 per liter. A five-litre bottle of soya bean oil sold for Tk 800-820 on the markets. Palm oil sold for Tk 163-165 a litre on the kitchen markets on the day. The prices of rice remained high and the coarse and medium-quality varieties of rice sold for Tk 55-65 a kilogram on Wednesday.
Lower-grade Miniket sold for Tk 70-75 a kilogram over the week.
The fine variety of Miniket sold for Tk 78-82 a kilogram and Najirshail for Tk 80-85 a kilogram. .
The prices of onions also remained high and its local variety sold for Tk 120 to 125 a kilogram while the imported item sold for Tk 100-110 a kilogram
The prices of winter vegetables decreased on the kitchen markets over the week.
The price of green chillies remained stable and the item sold for Tk 120-130 per kg in the kitchen markets .
The price of sugar remained high over the week and the item sold for Tk 135-140 a kilogram
The prices of broiler chicken remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 180-190 per kg. Sonalika variety of chicken sold for Tk 290-300 per kg in the town on the day.
The prices of eggs remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 48 -50 a hali (four pieces) in the kitchen markets on Wednesday.
Rohita sold for Tk 300-450 a kilogram and Katla for Tk 300-450 a kilogram, depending on size and quality.
The coarse variety of red lentil sold for Tk 105-110 a kilogram and the medium-quality variety for Tk 115-120 per kg.
