Mujib Borsho Celebrations: AL govt spent Tk1,261cr in 6 years

The ousted Awami League government spent Tk1,261 crore during the celebration of Mujib Borsho, marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the last six years.

The authorised ministries and government entities presented the expenditure to the Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday.

The Advisory Council also decided to suspend related budget allocation for Mujib Borsho celebration starting from 2024-25 financial year, according to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser’s Office.

Earlier on November 7, the interim government was decided to prepare a report on the amount of money spent during the celebration of Mujib Borsho, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The relevant ministries were compile lists detailing how and in which sectors funds were spent for the celebration.

Meanwhile, the ousted Awami League government, led by Sheikh Hasina, celebrated Mujib Borsho to mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The then government initially declared the year 2020-21 as the Mujib Year. The year was celebrated from 17 March 2020 to 31 March 2022 (extended by one year, from 17 March 2021 to 31 March 2022).
Sheikh Mujib was born on 17 March 1920, in Bengal Presidency (now in Tungipara village of the Gopalganj district of Bangladesh).
