Protesters surround Purbachal office demanding Hasina family’s plot cancellation

Staff Correspondent :

Indigenous residents affected by land acquisitions in Purbachal surrounded the RAJUK Purbachal branch office in Rupganj, Narayanganj, demanding the cancellation of allegedly illegal plots allocated to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family. The protest took place on Saturday at the branch office in Sector 1 of Purbachal New Town.
The demonstration, led by Dulal Hossain, the chief coordinator of the Purbachal Indigenous Rights Movement, included participants such as Advocate Shah Alam Ovi, Anwar, Shahed Pradhan, Munna, teacher Sanjida Akter, and Amena Begum, among others.
The affected indigenous residents claimed that genuine landowners in Purbachal were sidelined as plots were allegedly taken by Sheikh Hasina’s family and about 5,000 political affiliates using special powers. They demanded the cancellation of all plots allocated to previous government allies through irregular means. They warned that if their demands are not met, they will initiate strict actions, including blocking the 300-foot road running through their ancestral lands.
Later, RAJUK Chairman Siddiqur Rahman Tarek assured the protesters via phone that discussions would be held regarding the cancellation of the allocated plots. Following this assurance, the protesters suspended the blockade.
