Hezbollah launches rocket-drone attacks on Israel

Al Jazeera :

Israeli army has carried out strikes on military targets in Iran in response to what it said were months of attacks by “Iran and its proxies” in the region.
Iran’s military says two soldiers killed in Israeli strikes that targeted military bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran.
The UN fears “atrocity crimes” are being carried out in northern Gaza as Israel’s siege and “non-stop” bombing of the territory enters a fourth week.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said 41 people were killed and 133 wounded in Israeli attacks across the country on Friday.
In Gaza, at least 42,847 people have been killed and 100,544 wounded in Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks and more than 200 were taken captive.
Today is a Saturday. So officials, especially from the religious right, would not be commenting until after Shabbat.
However, we’ve heard from the opposition leader Yair Lapid who said not striking strategic economic and strategic assets in Iran was a mistake.
We even heard from a prominent and very vocal member of Netanyahu’s Likud party who said this was a mistake. It was a capitulation, in her own words, to the Biden administration, and this strike does not change the balance of power in the region.
There’s some commentary already in the Israeli media to that effect.
At the very least, some military analysts said this strike gives Iran plausible deniability – it allows Iran not to strike back, and it gives Israel room to claim that it did something big, although it’s in sharp contrast to the statements that we heard before the Israeli strike on Iran.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club has reported that Israeli forces have detained at least 15 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank between Friday and Saturday, including children and former prisoners.
The Prisoners Club said the arrests occurred across most governorates and involved extensive questioning of dozens of residents, particularly in the town of Anata, near Jerusalem. The operations were accompanied by physical assaults, threats against detainees and their families, and significant property damage.
Since October 7 last year, more than 11,400 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank and Jerusalem, according to the organisation.
