Barishal burning amid BCL men assaulting protesters

Students in Barishal are also protesting in support of quota reform by blocking the highway to demand quota reform. From morning students stay in their respective college campuses. Meanwhile, general students of Barishal University (BU) are not willing to take classes with the attackers. Students of various departments of BU declared the attackers ‘unwanted’. The students demanded the attackers to be expelled from the university.
This decision was taken by the general students after the BCL attacked on protesting students of different universities including Dhaka University on Monday (July 15). At least 45 batches of 15 departments of Barisal University are said to have taken this decision till the writing of this report. The departments are Management, Public Administration, English, Mathematics, Political Science, Botany, Social Work, Bengali, Marketing, Chemistry, Law, Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Statistics Department, Political Science and Sociology Department.
The students wrote on social media, “If any of our batch mates is directly or indirectly involved in the attack on general students, then based on proper evidence, he or she will be declared undesirable from any kind of work in the batch as a whole.”
When asked about the reason for taking such a decision, a student of Public Administration Department, on condition of anonymity, said, “We are not willing to sit in the same classroom with a terrorist.”
However, at 11 o’clock in the Barisal Government Brajmohan (BM) College campus, there was a chase and counter-chase with students and Chhatra League activists. Chhatra League leaders claim that they have stayed in the campus to avoid any untoward incident. Later, the agitating students went to Nathullabad area of the city and blocked the Dhaka-Barisal highway. Students of various colleges including Government Syed Hatim Ali College, Barisal College, Mahila College, University of Global Village, Government Polytechnic College, Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Infra Polytechnic College, Nursing Institute College. During this time, the students kept chanting slogans like ‘You are who I am, Razakar-Rajakar’, ‘Who said who said, Sarkar-Skarkar’, ‘I wanted rights, I became Razakar’.
At 11 am on Tuesday, students gathered at Barisal Government Brajmohan (BM) College campus and raised various slogans demanding quota reform. At this time suddenly BCL activists attacked the protesting students. Meanwhile, the two sides chased each other for a while. Later, the police came at the scene and calmed down the situation.
On the other hand, in order to prevent any untoward incident from happening due to the students blocking the road to collect their demands, additional law enforcement forces have been deployed on the road for the safety of vehicles and students.

40 hurt in Kishoreganj

Our Kishoreganj reported that hundreds of students Gurudhyal Government College in Kishoreganj to protest against the attack of Chatra league on students agitating for quota reform. They alleged that when the students gathering to participate in the protest, Chatra activists attack them .At least 40 students were injured in the clashes.
On Tuesday noon, the protesters circled the main roads in the town and took a position in the premises of Gurudhyal College.
It is known that suddenly the leaders and activists of Chhatra League attacked the protesting students with batons. At this time they dispersed and spread around the campus. Within a few moments, they got organized and clashed with the leaders and activists of the Chhatra League. District Chatra league President Anwar Hossain Molla Sumon and General Secretary Faiz Oman Khan are alleged to have led the attack.
This incident happened in front of Gurudayal Government College. It can be seen on the surface, the entire college campus turned into a battlefield with brickbats thrown and chases by both sides. Both sides had different types of indigenous weapons including sticks and rods. Although the police were present at the scene, they practically played the role of spectators. Around 1 o’clock in the area, there is continuous chasing and throwing of brickbats.
