A mawal (honey collector) named Mosharraf Gazi (55) was killed on Saturday afternoon when a crocodile attacked him while he was crossing Gazalmari canal by swimming in the deep forest at Karamjal area under Chandpai Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans.
At that time 3 other Mawals were, however, managed to escape themselves from the hands of the crocodile. The ill-fated Mawal Mosharraf Gazi hailed from the village Dhayingmari under Dakop Upazila in Khulna district.
Hawladar Md. Azad Kabir, Officer-in-charge of Karamjal wild animal breeding centre and Karamjal tourist spot told, the unfortunate Mawal met his tragic end when he went into the forest illegally to collect honey and while he was crossing a canal by swimming he was killed by a crocodile.
