Jail, fine if Aedes larvae found in houses, offices

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Monday said strict measures, including jail sentence and fine, will be taken if Aedes mosquito larvae are found in any house or office in the area.

“These measures will be effective from Saturday,” he said during the DNCC’s month-long awareness campaign inauguration in Dhaka on Monday.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said: “From Saturday if Aedes mosquito larvae are found in any house or office, jail sentences and fines will be imposed.

The responsible person will be sued and fined if larvae are found in a government office.

If larvae are found in any city corporation office, the officer in charge will also be sued.

“I want to send a clear message.

There will be lawsuits, jail, and fines, and the amount of the fines will significantly increase. I have already asked the local government to appoint more magistrates.”

He further added: “Measures would be taken before the start of the dengue season, as our entomologists advised us to start field activities from now on.

Thus, we have taken these steps. Clean places that could potentially breed Aedes mosquitoes.”
