Eid journey to be comfortable despite traffic pressure: Quader

Staff Reporter :
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader, assured citizens on Saturday that this year’s Eid journey remains comfortable despite the usual pressures of increased traffic.

Speaking to reporters at the ministry’s meeting room in the secretariat, Quader highlighted the efficient management of traffic flow, particularly on highways, ensuring a smooth travel experience for commuters.

“There is traffic pressure, but no traffic congestion on highways this time,” said Quader, indicating a successful navigation of the challenges typically associated with the Eid exodus.

He emphasised the concerted efforts undertaken to alleviate congestion, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure.

In a series of inaugural events, Minister Quader unveiled several key infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and easing travel burdens for citizens.

Among the unveiled projects were the opening of one railway overpass, seven road overpasses, and two bridges along the Tangail-Rangpur highway.

These infrastructural enhancements, Quader noted, were part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Eid gifts to the people of Bangladesh.

The newly opened projects include a 550-metre railway overpass at Tinmatha rail gate in Bogura, along with several road overpasses and bridges strategically positioned to enhance transportation efficiency.

Notable among these are the Datiya Bridge, Fatki Bridge, Mulibari overpass, and various others spanning different regions along the Tangail-Rangpur highway.

Furthermore, Minister Quader inaugurated the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system at all toll plazas along the Dhaka-Chattogram national highways, introducing modernized payment methods to streamline toll collection processes.

This initiative aims to improve traffic flow and reduce waiting times at toll booths, ultimately contributing to a smoother travel experience for commuters.

Accompanied by Road Transport and Highways Division secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and senior officials, Minister Quader’s announcements signal the government’s proactive approach towards addressing transportation challenges and ensuring a hassle-free Eid journey for citizens across Bangladesh.
