Abahani start super six with win in Premier Hockey

Abahani Limited started their super six campaign with a massive win as they defeated Bangladesh Police Sporting Club by seven goals to nil in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League held at Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Friday.

In the day’s match, experienced midfielder Roman Sarkar scored a brace while Ashraful Islam, Rezaul Karim Babu and three Indian recruits — Shilananda Larka, Venkatash De Ketch and Affan Yousuf — supported them with a lone goal each for the winning side in the one-sided affairs.

After the barren first quarter, Abahani took the lead through a field goal by Roman in the 19th minute, while Ashraful doubled the lead for Abahani converting a penalty corner in the 20th minute of the match.

Shilananda scored the third goal for Abahani converting a penalty corner in the 42nd minute.

Abahani scored four more goals in the fourth and last quarter by maintaining their domination in the field.

Rezaul further widened Abahani’s margin converting a penalty corner in the 49th minute, while Roman made the score line 5-0 scoring his second field goal in the 53rd minute of the match.
