Chittagong Abahani Limited reached the quarterfinal of the Federation Cup Football Tournament from Group C beating all-losers Farashganj SC 1-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Farashganj SC has been eliminated from the meet after suffering two successive defeats after their 0-2 goals defeat against Dhaka Abahani Ltd in the first match.
When the match was almost heading for a draw, substitute forward Khaled Ahmed scored the match-winner for Chittagong Abahani in the second and last minute of the two-minute stoppage time (1-0).
Earlier, in the 30th minute of the match, Chittagong Abahani midfielder Mohammad Himu managed the first scoring chance but placed the ball a few inches off the side post.
In the 50th minute, Nigerian midfielder of Farashganj SC Uche Felix sent a neat through to his compatriot Akinyele Peter whose placing side footer missed the side post.
Today’s matches: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club vs Team BJMC (4pm); and Mohammedan SC vs Brothers Union (6:15pm).
