With Eid Ul Fitr approaching gradually just keeping only eight or nine days left to reach the holy festival, traders arranged their stalls with splendid clothes to show them in front of the shoppers. It has been seen after visiting the commercial areas of the divisional city Barishal, even though the clothes was arranged in Eid perview, but the sale was slightly lower than other times. But as the days progressed, the sale of clothes also started to increase, hoped the traders.
However, after the 20th of Ramadan, the Eid market in Barishal yet not get momentum, but has started to be crowded like every year. Many people have completed their choice for Eid shopping in advance keeping in mind the traffic jams and crowds.
Others have come to check new designs and prices on the occasion of Eid. Many people are shopping in the first part of the fast to give gifts to their relatives. In the market demand for women’s native sarees, three-pieces and men’s Punjabi is highest this year.
In addition to this, in Barishal, a huge crowd of buyers has been noticed in the showrooms of all new and expensive clothes and shoes. Buyers alleged that the price of everything is higher compared to this year and traders say that everything is fine according to the current market price.
Nasima Begum, housewife of a service holder family, said it is not possible to buy without matching the budget with the price. The sellers are expecting that the Eid market will be fully crowded from last week before Eid.
Barishal city’s Chowkbazar, Katpatti, Girja Mahalla and other markets can be seen, there were customers in the shops of cosmetics, jewellery, imitation gold, shoes-sandals and other products in these markets.
Anisur Rahman Panna, proprietor of New Elahi Cloth Stores, a wholesaler and retailer on Bazar Road, said sales are better this year than last year, but will get momentum on the last 3 or 4 days after service holders get salaries and bonus and rush to the market for buying goods for their dearest and nearest ones.
This year’s Eid event there is choice of children’s shirts, fatuas, long pants, quarter pants and Punjabis in various colors. For baby girls, there are frocks, party frocks, fashion tops, three pieces, jump suits, neema sets, top bottom sets, long and short shirts with bahari designs.
For Men – Punjabi collection in various colors made of light and durable fabrics, shirts, t-shirts, easy care shirts, pajamas, denim pants, kaiteki pants, jeans and gabardine priced Tk. 500 to 4000.
And for girls, there are three pieces, two pieces, worked georgette kameez, viscose kameez, frog, saree, lehenga, printed long shirts in various colors, tops, tunics, kameez with embroidery skirts and leggings priced Tk.800 to 6000.
Also every year Barisal clothing bazaar is occupied by various Indian serials or Indian movies like Kiranmala, Baahubali, Rakhi Bandhan, Pakhi, Anarkali, Boss along with Bahari.
But this year the shoppers are hearing more about Indian Naira and Sarara designer dresses. These clothes are available starting from 950 to 10/12 thousand taka. Also burqas of various collections for girls are available between 850 and 5500 taka.
