Mobile internet subscribers increase after 5 months

After five consecutive months of declining mobile phone internet users in the country, the country witness a sudden increased in February.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) reported a jump of 11.70 lakh, subscribers in the second month of the year.
This information was published on the Commission’s website on Sunday. According to published data, the number of mobile internet subscribers in February was 11 crore, 74 lakh, and 70 thousand.
Just a month before this, in January, this number was 11 crore, 63 lakh. According to that, the number of customers increased by 11 lakh, 70 thousand, within a month.
While mobile internet subscribers increased, ISP and PSTN internet subscribers remained unchanged, at 1 crore 28 lakh and 80 thousand in February. The number of ISP and PSTN internet subscribers has remained the same since December last year.
Meanwhile, the increase in mobile internet subscribers has also increased the total number of internet subscribers in the country. In the month of February, the total number of subscribers increased to 13 crore, 3 lakh, 50 thousand.
It is known that BTRC publishes the number of Internet subscribers in the country every month on its own website. This time, the regulator released the customer data for February on the last day of March.
It was known that, the number of mobile internet subscribers in the country had been seen to decrease for five consecutive months.
Consumers complained that mobile operators have increased internet prices in the name of package adjustments, resulting in reduced usage.
Internet prices have increased recently. It was feared that mobile operator companies would lose more customers in February and March. However, the opposite picture was seen in the data from BTRC.
According to the data from BTRC, in August 2023, mobile internet subscribers increased to 11 crore, 97 lakh, and 90 thousand.
Then, in September, the number of customers started to decrease. In September, 20 thousand customers fell to 11 crore, 97 lakh, 70 thousand. In October, 3 lakh 60 thousand customers decreased to 11 crore 94 lakh 10 thousand.
About 5 lakh customers dropped in November. There were 11 crore, 89 lakh, and 60 thousand subscribers in that month.
Then in December, it decreased to 11 lakh, 84 lakh, and 90 thousand. In the last month of January, the number of mobile internet subscribers decreased to 11 crore, 60 lakh and 30 thousand, respectively.
When asked about this, the Director General (SS) of the BTRC, Brigadier General Khalilur Rahman, said that “It can increase or decrease due to various reasons. There may be questions about cost escalation.
There are various other reasons as well. The number of subscribers increased slightly in February. We publish the information we receive every month. There is nothing to hide here.”
