Extinct Laudaga variety of snakes found in Kalapara

A mildly venomous extinct variety of flying Laudaga snake was found in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali. Its length is about 5 feet. At 12 noon on Saturday, local people saw it in a slightly injured condition on the road adjacent to Haripara Chowkidar’s house in Baliatali Union of Upazila.
Locals said that the snake was injured under the wheels of any vehicle while crossing the road.At least 20 years ago, this species of snake was commonly seen. These snakes can fly a distance of about 1,000 feet.
Later, locals and passers-by rescued the injured snake and released it in Baliatali forest.
Locals say that these snakes with flat head, long shape and dark green color are not seen normally.
Animal Lovers of Patuakhali’s Kalapara branch team leader Rakayet Ahsan said that these snakes are almost extinct. The snake was freed by locals before our team reached the spot.
