On November 17, 2023 when ‘Mithila,’ a cyclonic storm swept over the Bay of Bengal and the coastal areas of the country, a fishing boat named “FB Allardan” capsized in the Bay along with its 15 fishermen. At that time some other fishing boats rescued 6 (six) fishermen who were found floating in the sea. But no trace of the rest 9 (nine) fishermen was found till the writing this report though 4 months already passed away after the incident, according a report received here from Dubla fish drying village, situated on the bank of the Bay of Bengal under the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district).
The missing fishermen who used to catch fish from the sea and dry the same under Mozaffor Bahaddar and Ishaq Bhaddar hail from Chottogram district now working as dry-fish traders at Alorkol island under Dubla fish drying village disclosed to the newsmen (of Sharankhola Upaziola headquarters in Bagerhat district), on November 17 (in the year 2023) when the fishermen (15 in number) were catching fish from the sea (the Bay of Bengal) with our fishing boat (FB. Allardan) suddenly it (the sea) became violent following the formation of Mithila, a cyclonic storm in the Bay the fishing boat capsized in it (the Bay). Only some six fishermen (06) were rescued alive by some other fishing boats and the rest (9) were missing. The Missing fishermen are Kalu Akon, son of one Karim Akon, Hari Ranjan Das, son of Harisanna Das, Amir Hossain, son of one Senayet Ali, Sudhangsu Jaladas, son of one Hamini Jaladas, Nurul Absar, son of one Abdul Karim, Nesar, son of Abdul Karim, Abul Kashem, son of one Habibur Rahaman, Jamal Mia, son of an unknown person and Nurul Islam (father unknown). All the missing persons hailed from the different the different places under Chottogram district. The Bahaddars added, after the missing of the fishermen we searched the different places of the coastal areas of both Bangladesh and India for a long. But unfortunately we found no trace of them. Now we cannot say whether they are alive or dead. The family members of the missing fishermen are in great anxieties. The activities of the fish drying season at Dubla fish drying village will be closed only after a few days and we all leave the place for the respective home. After returning home how we will face and console the members of the bereaved families.
