‘$30b needed in power, energy sector in 5 years’

About 30 billion dollars investment will be needed in the power and energy sector in the next 5 years and the friendly country China can stand by on a larger scale investment in this sector.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid came up with this after a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen.
The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh paid a courtesy call with the state minister at the Secretariat on Monday.
Nasrul Hamid said that a specialized team can be formed to increase the investment area in the power and energy sector.
They discussed various issues of mutual interest during the meeting. Congratulating the state minister, the Chinese ambassador said that China’s cooperation with Bangladesh is increasing successively.
“It was important to sit together to increase the area of cooperation. We belief Bangladesh will become more prosperous, strong and developed in the next five years,” Yao Wen said.
Referring the projects financed by China like setting up of lithium battery factory, setting up of semi conductor factory, electric vehicle, battery storage system, smart meter, solar power project, wind power project, electricity from waste, gas extraction etc. were also discussed at the meeting.
Welcoming the Chinese ambassador, the Nasrul Hamid said that China is a tested friend of Bangladesh. Chinese companies are making significant contributions to the expansion of the power and energy sector in Bangladesh, the state minister added.
