Taslim-led panel sweeps HAAB election

M. Shahadat Hossain Taslim has been re-elected as the president of the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) for the third consecutive term. The HAAB Combined Forum, led by Taslim, also secured a clean sweep by winning all positions, including those for the Dhaka, Chattagram, and Sylhet zones in the election.

The announcement of the election results was made by Mohammad Hafizur Rahman, the chairman of the election management board, at the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall in Shahbag, the capital, on Saturday.

In the election, Taslim, heading the HAAB Combined Forum panel, garnered 404 votes, while his rival candidate, Jamal Uddin Ahmed, heading the HAAB Democratic Unity Front, received 227 votes. Taslim secured victory over Jamal by a significant margin of 177 votes.

Congratulating voters Taslim said, ‘I will try to stand by the side of the pilgrims and the agency as well as maintain discipline in Hajj management. I will try my best to do whatever is necessary for their welfare.’

The elections were held in Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet simultaneously.

In the election, 27 central members and 13 members of Dhaka Regional Committee and seven members of Chattogram Regional Committee have been elected from the same panel.

Earlier, seven members of Sylhet Regional Committee were elected unopposed. The winning leaders will then elect their secretary general.
A total of 739 out of 930 exercised their franchise in the HAAB election.

Director General of the Ministry of Commerce (Commercial Organization) Dr. Zeenat Rehan, Deputy Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, MM Mostafa Jamal Chowdhury and Mohammad Moshiur Rahman was as observer in the election.
