Teacher, who cuts hair of 9 female students, suspended

A teacher of Syedpur Abdur Rahman School and College under Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj has been suspended temporarily for cutting the hair of nine seventh-grade students for not wearing hijab.

The teacher was identified as Runia Sarkar.

The school managing committee has temporarily suspended the teacher at the command of Sirajdikhan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sabbir Ahmed.

In this regard, UNO Sabbir Ahmed said: “The teacher has already been temporarily suspended. A committee headed by the upazila secondary education officer has been formed to investigate the incident.

The committee will submit the inquiry report within the next three working days. Necessary legal action will be taken based on the report, he said.”

Earlier on Wednesday (February 28), the incident took place when the seventh class was going on. Accused Runia Sarkar is a teacher of the science department of that institution.

The seventh victim’s graders have been identified as Maisa Jahan, Tanjila Akhtar, Anil Akhtar, Tasfia, Mahadia, Sumaiya and Ifa Akhtar.
