BB gets two new deputy governors

The Ministry of Finance has appointed Dr Md Habibur Rahman and Md Khurshid Alam as deputy governors of the Bangladesh Bank.

Habibur Rahman and Khurshid Alam were appointed on contractual basis for the next three years on the condition of cancellation of their voluntary retirement from their current posts, according to gazette notifications of the Financial Institutions Division.

With the latest recruitments, there are now four deputy governors at the Bangladesh Bank. Habibur Rahman is currently serving as the chief economist of the central bank.

Previously, Habibur worked in the research department, monetary management, and technical unit of Bangladesh Bank. He also worked as a senior research economist in the policy analysis unit of the central bank under the World Bank’s capacity building project.

Habibur, who has a PhD in practical economics, joined Bangladesh Bank’s research department in 1990 as an assistant director.
Khurshid is currently serving as the executive director of the Bangladesh Bank.

He began his tenure with the Bangladesh Bank in 1988, and has since served in various departments, including Banking Regulation and Policy.
