Law enforcers to help curb price hike
Staff Reporter :
Every year, the government normally makes a promise to contain the prices of essentials commodities under control marking the holy month Ramadan.
But it seems to be only on paper as the prices of almost key items rose before starting the Ramadan.
Recently, the law and order forces have become more active after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s comments, those who raise prices by hiding consumer goods will be beaten by mobs.
In the meantime, they have started the work of making a list of illegal hoarders to keep the prices of daily necessities normal during Ramadan.
Police-RAB will jointly handle the case under the Special Powers Act and mobile courts if found to be involved in illegal stockpiling.
Action has already been taken against those who extort money in vehicles. According to the sources of the police headquarters, the policy-making circles of the government have ordered to play an effective role to break the syndicate of daily necessities.
The relevant ministries are active to reduce inflation by keeping the price situation normal. Five ministries have already held a coordinated meeting to implement that goal.
Ministers, secretaries and senior officials of the Ministry of Commerce, Finance, Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock participated in this policy-making meeting.
All the ministries have been talking about taking necessary measures acknowledging that there are syndicates and illegal hoarders in the commodity market.
Although some names of syndicate members and illegal hoarders are in the hands of the ministries, there is not enough information to get concrete evidence against them. Meanwhile, the government wants to identify these syndicate members and illegal hoarders specifically with evidence. Several decisions have been taken in a joint meeting of the Ministry to check illegal stockpiling of essential commodities and to maintain normal prices, which law and order forces have been directed to implement.
In the crime review meeting held at the police headquarters, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun ordered the senior police officers to take measures to prevent the increase in commodity prices. It has been decided to strengthen surveillance to ensure that market conditions are normal before the start of fasting.
Product supply chain will be monitored – AIG (Media) of Police Headquarters Inamul Haque Sagar When asked, RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin told the media, “RAB has entered the field to stop the ongoing hoarding and extortion of goods carrying vehicles to prevent the rise in commodity prices marking the upcoming Ramadan.”
Strict legal action will be taken against those who are manipulating to increase the prices of daily commodities including vegetables unreasonabl.
Whatever are their identities, no one will be exempted in this case. For this reason, RAB has instructed every battalion to increase intelligence surveillance and conduct operations, he added.
