Metro to run every 8mins from Saturday
Staff Reporter :
The metro rail passengers suffered as its service was delayed for about an hour on Thursday morning due to some technical fault.
However, the metro rail authorities have decided to cut the interval between arrivals of trains at every station by 2 minutes to 8 minutes from Saturday (February 17) considering the pressure of passengers.
Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique said this while talking to reporters on Thursday.
Technical problems developed after four metro trains left the Uttara station in the morning and the service was delayed for about 50 minutes, MAN Siddique said.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, a stray kite fell on the power cable which kept the metro rail services on hold for about an hour. Two people were arrested in this regard.
MAN Siddique, however, said that they will operate trains every eight minutes during peak hours and every 10-12 minutes during off-peak hours.
Meanwhile, Metro rail trains are operating on the Uttara-Motijheel route from 7:30am to 8:40pm.
The gap between the arrival of trains in each station is 10 minutes during peak hours and 12 minutes during off-peak hours.
The month of holy Ramadan will begin within a few days, he said, adding that some programmes will be taken in the month of Ramadan because of changing the office time during the month.
“We are now operating 152 trips considering the demand of the passengers. Now, we have increased the train’s trips by 26,” he said.
MAN Siddique said that at least 2.7 lakh passengers are traveling by Metrorail daily.
