State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj on Tuesday underscored the importance of comprehensive reforms in the education sector, calling for modern curricula, better-trained teachers, climate-resilient educational infrastructure and wider use of technology to prepare students for future challenges.
He said the government has formulated a clear long-term roadmap for education within only four months of taking office, with a focus on producing globally competitive citizens, creating skilled human resources and ensuring education is aligned with employment demands and technological advancement.
The state minister made the remarks while addressing the Cambridge Press and Assessment Bangladesh Limited, Launch Event 2026, organised by Cambridge International Education at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital.
Highlighting the government’s education priorities, Bobby Hajjaj said the vision aims to transform the sector in a way that equips students with the knowledge and skills required in a rapidly changing world.
He noted that Bangladesh currently has more than 27 different education streams and stressed the need to establish a common minimum standard across all of them.
According to him, students studying in madrasas, Bangla medium institutions, English medium schools and government primary schools should enjoy equal opportunities in acquiring fundamental knowledge and skills.
Emphasising the central role of teachers in the education system, the state minister said quality education cannot be achieved without strengthening the teaching profession.
Drawing a comparison, he said that just as a car cannot function without wheels, an education system cannot operate effectively without teachers.
Bobby Hajjaj said discussions are underway regarding the use of Cambridge’s teacher training programme and other international experiences to provide world-class training opportunities for a large number of teachers across the country.
Officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the British High Commission in Dhaka and Cambridge University attended the programme.
