Nepal to follow Bangladeshi community clinics concept

Health and Family Welfare Minister Professor Dr. Samanta Lal Sen on Tuesday announced that the Nepalese government has expressed interest in adopting the community clinic concept of Bangladesh within its health sector.

During a meeting with the Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, Dr. Sen assured that the Bangladesh government will provide all necessary support to Nepal for the implementation of the community clinics concept in their health sector, according to an official press release.

Ambassador Bhandari commended Bangladesh for its significant achievements in the health sector, attributing much of its success to innovative models and initiatives, particularly highlighting the community clinic model for its substantial impact on the lives of the general populace. He mentioned that the Nepalese government aims to replicate this model in its health sector.

Dr. Samanta Lal emphasized that the concept of community clinics is a pioneering initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, designed to ensure that rural populations have access to healthcare facilities.

He highlighted that these clinics have gained global recognition, with a resolution on community-based healthcare in Bangladesh being unanimously adopted at the United Nations (UN) in 2023.
