Aricha-Kazirhat ferry movement resumes after 6.30 hours
Staff Reporter :
Dense fog had paused ferry movement on the Aricha-Kazirhat route for nearly six hours on Friday.
“We were forced to suspend the ferry movement on the route around 12.30 am on Friday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river bed of Jamuna,” said Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz.
The official said that during the period, three ferries– Begum Sufia Kamal, Begum Rokeya and Beer Shreshtha Ruhul Amin– were stranded at Aricha Ghat and ferry Shah Ali was anchored in the middle of the river Jamuna with many vehicles, mostly loaded trucks and covered vans.
Meanwhile, the ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was also suspended around 2.40 am to 6.30 am on Friday due to dense fog, the Paturia Ghat sources said.
Two ferries carrying many vehicles like passenger-bound buses remained stranded at Paturia Ghat, 10 at Daulatdia Ghat and two ferries also remained stranded in the midstream of the Padma River in Paturia-Daulatdia route.
