JaPa agitators want GM Quader, Chunnu to quit

Staff Reporter :
Several hundred leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) on Wednesday organised angry demonstration and protest rally in its Banani office in the capital demanding resignation of the party Chairman GM Quader and Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu for the party’s deplorable state in the 12th national election held on January 7.

During the protest, a written statement was read out condemning the activities of the two in front of the Jatiya Party chairman’s office at Banani in the capital.

Some JaPa leaders said the two will be forced to resign within the next 48 hours.

Jatiya Party Additional Secretary General Sahidur Rahman Tepa said in a written statement on behalf of the candidates who had been forced to withdraw from the election in which the party faced an embarrassing defeat.

“Chairman GM Quader has led the Jatiya Party to the edge of destruction in the last four years due to his wrongful leadership, organizational weakness and political shortsightedness. It was reflected in this election,” Tepa said in his written statement.

“More than 200 candidates of the party have boycotted the elections for gross betrayal and cheating,” he said.

“The government conceded 26 seats to JaPa. We hoped that the chairman and secretary general of the party would take responsibility for throwing the Jatiya Party into such a mess and causing a bad defeat in the election and resign to save their honour.

But they did not even do that. We understand what the party’s leaders and activists at all levels want.

We want to see Chairman GM Quader and Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu resigned from their posts within 48 hours.”

Meanwhile, the police took position in front of the JaPa Banani office to deal with the situation. Law enforcement agencies were not allowing any activists to enter the office.

Meanwhile, JaPa Chairman GM Quader told Journalists that the protest was a pre-arranged matter.

“Some people want to make our party image questionable. They want to stain our party image by such activities,” GM Quader said.

He said that every decision of the party on the national election was taken through discussions at the party forum.

Replying a question about the election result of the party, JaPa Chairman said, “Nothing similar can happen every times. This national election was not fully Okayed. Something was fair, but something happened beyond our hopes.”
