Cargo vessel hitting Barishal-bound passenger launch damaged severely

Cargo vessel named ‘MV Mercantile-3’ hitting Barishal-bound three storied passenger launch MV Sundarban-16 damaged severely without any causality amid dense fog on Meghna River.
The VIP cabin, canteen, mid-deck stairs of MV Sundarbon-16 habe been damaged by hit of the cargo ‘MV Mercantile-3’ on early Friday.
Mohammad Ismail Hossain, the supervisor of the Sundarban-16 ship, said, “In this incident, the stairs between the VIP cabin, canteen and deck of the Sundarban 16 ship damaged, but no passengers were injured.”
‘MV Sundarban-16’which left Dhaka for Barishal on Thursday night, when the vessel amid dense fogreached at Ekhlachpur area of Matlab Uttar Upazila under Chandpur district around 12:45 AM Friday, then cargo ship named ‘MV Mercantile-3’ hit the center of Sundarban-16.
Supervisor of Sundarban-16 launch Mohammad Ismail Hossain said the accident occurred due to dense fog and for safety of the passengers, the damaged vessel anchored to nearby shoal. The cargo ship MV Mercantile-3 is in the custody of Coast Guard and Naval Police.
Passengers of the damaged launch evacuated by two launches Sundarban-14 and Sundarban -15to ensure the safety of the passengers and reached at Barishal river port on Friday late morning, supervisor of Sundarban-14 Mohammad Yunus Mia said .
Abdur Razzak, Barishal river port officer, said the place of accident is out of our jurisdiction area and the passengers reached safely at Barishal port on Friday morning.
Saidur Rahman Rintu, managing director of the launch company said the victimized damaged launch sent to dockyard at Dhaka for repair and allegation with marine court would be lodged in this connection.
