10 killed in road crashes across country

At least 10 people, including three in Jamalpur, were killed and several others injured in three separate districts on Tuesday.

In Jamalpur, at least three people were killed and two others injured when a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sadar upazila of Jamalpur on Tuesday.

The incident took place around 4pm yesterday in Bharuakhali Bazar area in the upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Mozaffar Hossain, 38, a resident of Munshirchar area, and Arman Mia, 34, driver of the auto-rickshaw and resident of Nandir Bazar Banger Mor area in Sherpur upazila of the district, and Khokan Mia, 35, from Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh.

According to Locals, a sand-laden truck rammed the CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Bharuakhali Bazart in Ghoradhap union, leaving three dead on the spot and two others injured. Later, the injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Of the injured, one is in critical condition.

Confirming the matter, Sadar Police Station officer in-charge Muhammad Mahabbat Kabir said the truck driver managed to flee.

In Sunamganj, three fish traders were killed after a pick-up van crashed into a tree in Sunamganj’s Chhatak Upazila.
The accident occurred on Tuesday morning in upazila’s Borokapon area, said Ahmad Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Joykalash Highway Police Station.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Karim, 57, son of Monohor Ali of Shantiganj upazila’s Ukhargaon village; Nurul Haque, 45, son of Giyas Uddin of Dirai upazila’s Sadirpur village; and Asab Uddin, 50, son of Abdur Rahim of Jamalganj upazila’s Hatamara village.

In Rangpur, two motorcycle riders were killed and two others injured after being hit by a trolley in Rangpur’s Taraganj upazila.

The accident took place on Tuesday around 9 am at the intersection of Taraganj-Burirhat road in the upazila, near Grameen Bank in Burirhat Bazar.
