Students take new textbooks with joy

Students of the city's Mirpur Government Primary School express their exultation by getting textbooks free of cost on the school premises on the first day of the New Year on Monday.

The National Textbook Festival-2024, marking the distribution of free and new textbooks among primary and secondary level students, was celebrated across the country yesterday.

Children were seen delighted to get their new textbooks wearing school uniforms, some with colorful dresses with their guardians joined the programme and waiting to take smell of new books.

On the first day of the academic year, the students from one to seven levels received all their books. However, in case of eighth and ninth class students also returned home with five or six book each.

According to NCTB data, in 2024, the new curriculum will be taught in the two and three classes of the primary level and the eighth and ninth classes of the secondary level.

Different schools in the capital and across the country organised book distribution and textbook festival programmes making the national event.

After taking the new books, the children were seen busy at flipping through new books.

Nabil Hossain, a third grade student of the National Govt Primary School in the capital, said, “I am very happy as I have received new books. I will start to read the book after just reaching home.”

Like Nabil, children across the country celebrated the Textbook Festival as they received textbooks free of cost for their new classes on the first day of the New Year.

The primary level textbooks festival was held centrally at National Govt Primary School where State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Ministry Md Zakir Hossain was present at the book distribution programme as the chief guest and Primary while Mass Education Secretary Farid Ahmed attended as the special guest.

According to NCTB data, the number of students in 2024 academic year is estimated at 3 crore 81 lakh 27 thousand 630. A total of 30 crore 70 lakh 83 thousand 517 books have been printed for them.
